    About us

    As a Community Interest Company we are different from most other home care providers, who are mainly for profit commercial companies.

    Any surplus that our company generates will be reinvested into the community for the benefit of our service users and the people who provide the service. Our purpose is to provide an affordable service that benefits the community we live in and fair pay for the people who provide the service. Care Extra (CE) received a set-up grant from the National Lottery in recognition that it serves an important need in our community.

    CE  is overseen by a board of 3 directors.

    The founding Director, Dorthe Bucknell, and her two co-directors have many years of experience in the public and charity sectors, including adult care and mental health. They know from personal experience what it is like helping to care for family members with physical health problems and debilitating conditions such as dementia.

    They have all experienced adult home care services first hand, and want to use their knowledge and experience to improve the home care on offer to our local community.

    CE works in partnership with Age Concern in Deal and Sandwich, as well as with other organisations such as Carers Support, Dover District Volunteer Centre, Kent County Council and local health providers.

    The Directors

    Dorthe Bucknell is a qualified social worker and has 15 years’ experience as a senior manager with Kent County Council, Social Services department. She has worked as a volunteer for a children’s charity in Uganda for 8 months and is a trustee of two UK charities.

    Vince Marsh worked in a senior capacity for more than 15 years in Local Government, specialising in financial management and audit, business planning and performance management. Vince also has extensive knowledge of the voluntary and charity sectors both locally and nationally.

    Jenny Olpin is a qualified social worker and worked for many years as a manager of adult services for Kent County Council. She also has experience of working with hospitals and supervises social work students.
